Crafty Monday Faux Ribbon Weave Card

Crafty Monday – Faux Ribbon Weave Card

Sneak Peek New products

Welcome back to another Crafty Monday!

Today I’m sharing a few of the lovely things I received recently (happy mail is always such a joy!) and then we’re creating a beautiful Faux Ribbon Weave Card together.

This technique looks like an intricate woven ribbon design, but it’s actually very simple to make. It’s a fantastic way to use up Designer Series Paper scraps, mix different patterns together, and create lots of texture on your card front.

The best part? You can keep it elegant with black and white papers or have fun mixing lots of colours and patterns.

For today’s card I’m using the Sincerely Noted Mix & Match Ephemera Pack and some black-and-white Designer Series Paper, finished with a little sparkle from the Sunset Sparkle Sequins.

Measurements

Card Base

Basic White Cardstock

21 cm x 14.5 cm

Score in half at 10.5 cm and fold.

Weave Panel

Basic White

5 cm x 14 cm

Mark along both long sides at:

2.5 cm

5 cm

7.5 cm

10 cm

12.5 cm

(Each mark is 2.5 cm apart.)

Mat Layer

Basic White

14 cm x 4.5 cm

Designer Series Paper

Cut 14 strips of DSP:

• 7 strips – 1 cm wide for one direction

• 7 strips – 1 cm wide for the opposite direction

These can be:

  • All the same paper
  • Two coordinating patterns
  • Or a fun mix of different patterns

Supplies Used

  • Basic White Cardstock
  • Black & White Cardstock
  • Designer Series Paper Medley 12” x 12”
  • Sincerely Noted Mix & Match Ephemera Pack (167706)
  • Sunset Sparkle Sequins (167785)
  • Liquid Glue

How to Create the Faux Ribbon Weave

  1. Score and fold your card base.
  2. On the 5 cm x 14 cm Basic White panel, mark every 2.5 cm along both long sides.
  3. Add a small amount of liquid glue along the first marked line.
  4. Lay your first DSP strip across the panel.
  5. Continue placing strips at each marked line.
  6. Now weave the second set of strips over and under the first set to create the ribbon weave effect.
  7. Secure with glue where needed.
  8. Trim any excess from the edges.
  9. Attach the panel to the 14 cm x 4.5 cm mat.
  10. Add the layered piece to the card base.
  11. Finish with an image from the Sincerely Noted Ephemera Pack and a few Sunset Sparkle Sequins for a little shimmer.

Teresa’s Gold Nugget

This is a wonderful technique for using up scrap strips of Designer Series Paper. Try mixing different patterns from the same collection or even create a rainbow weave using lots of colours.

Lets Get Hoping

Lets Get Hopping Round #12 Do you have a favourite technique? Is it something that you turn to time and time again or is it a technique you like to use on those extra special projects? This month is about our favourite technique and I do turn to masking so much as I love the way you can add two or three stamps set to make a card and it can look like a painting. So what is masking?  Its when you stamp out and image first on your card and also onto some Posty notes. Cut out Posty Note and place over the image as I have with the ute. Then you can build up the background behind your image I have used sponging, and the water from the High Tide Stamp set plus I punch out a circle from a Posty Note and Place on my pitcher where I wonted it, Sponging over the Posty Note first then removing and adding some colour and the birds from the High Tide Stamp set.  I Used a Aqua painter and inks to paint my Ute added some more birds and also sponge and used Aqua...
